Amnesty for Women Städtegruppe Hamburg e.V. is a not-for-profit association established 1986.

Working on the principle of "helping women to help themselves", the organisation carries out an extensive programme of activities focused on the needs of migrant women in Germany, including counselling, accompanying and supporting them, and providing them with training. Public relations work aims to publicise their situation and the issues with which they are faced.

The overall goal is to strengthen the social and legal situation of migrant women and thus, in the long term, to assist their integration into German society.

Two groups of migrant women are often in a particularly precarious situation and are at particular risk of violence.

A large number of them are isolated and lonely, and do not have many opportunities of meeting women who are in a similar situation to share experiences and express their cultural background.

These women's isolation is often partially due to huge language barriers that make communication difficult and mean that they are initially afraid of making contact with others.

Amnesty for Women acts as a meeting place and a counselling centre for women in this problematic situation, and offers psychological/social and legal counselling for women.

Our staff are from a migrant background, and speak German, English, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Thai. Thus, most women who come to us can receive counselling in their native language. Where this is not the case, we direct women to other counselling services or try to find an interpreter.

We also offer psychological counselling in Polish and Spanish for Central European and Latin American women. Together with each individual, we look for ways of resolving her problems, helping her to understand and demand her rights on her way to a self-directed life and assisting her in increasing her own independence.

Our counselling services are free and anonymous.

Amnesty for Women Städtegruppe Hamburg e.V. welcomes applications by women to work as interns. The internship should last at least three months. The intern should possess good knowledge of German and knowledge of at least one other foreign language.

Amnesty for Women e.V. offers female volunteers an interesting and varied experience in a lively, multi-cultural team of enthusiastic women with years of experience in their areas of speciality. If you have the courage to face new challenges every day, we would be delighted to welcome you to our team.

Voluntary work for Amnesty for Women e. V. is possible on weekdays from Monday to Friday.

We particularly welcome migrants and other multi-lingual women, and are happy to work with older women.
 
We always need volunteers who can help us in our work!
In particular, we are always looking for women to assist us with the following:
